Foundation for Children Right (FCR) has trained 244 childcare officers in inclusive early childhood care in Mzimba.

FCR is running a three-year early childhood care and development (ECCD) project in the southern part of the district.

The initiative is funded by Save the Children to the tune of K1 billion.

Banda: We are working with community structures

Speaking at the annual conference on inclusive ECCD in Mzimba on Wednesday, FCR project officer Isaac Banda said the child rights organisation plans to train at least 360 caregivers and 1100 ECCD centre management committees by 2019.

“Our aim is to reach 120 community-based childcare centres. We are working with community structures to help mobilise the targeted population to send children to ECCD regardless of their deprivation,” he explained.

Felix Sapala, director of programmes management and evaluation in the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, commended FCR for the strides towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) four.

The global target promotes life-long learning opportunities for all through inclusive and equitable quality education.

Inkosi Kampingo Sibande hailed FCR for increasing access to early childhood education. n
