FDH Bank, the official sponsors of the Flames, have expressed delight with the Malawi National Football team’s good start in their 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification campaign.

Malawi beat Comoros 1-0 in their opening Group B qualifier at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last Saturday to go joint top with African champions Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions who beat the Atlas Lions of Morocco by the same margin.

The bank’s marketing officer, Ronald Chimchere, yesterday said they hope that the Flames will build up from their promising start.

Chimchere: We are delighted

“As official sponsors, we are proud with the take-off and we are hoping to realise our dream of contributing towards the team’s revival.

“We want to see to it that the Flames qualify for 2019 Afcon and that is why we co-sponsored the hiring of the coach Ron van Geneugden [RVG].

“We realise that there are tough matches coming up against Cameroon and Morocco next year, but the win should give the players motivation that they can reach the promised land,” said Chimchere.

FDH Bank last year signed a K90 million three-year sponsorship with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for Flames’ sponsorship.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu commended FDH Bank’s role in the drive to turn around the Flames fortunes.

“FDH Bank’s sponsorship is towards recruitment of the national coach RVG. Our ambition to have an expatriate coach was made possible through FDH who agreed to target its sponsorship to the national coach.

“I would, therefore, say that FDH has made a significant investment in the growth and development of the Flames as we embark on Vision 2024.

“We are proud of the sponsorship that we are enjoying from FDH who are the only private sponsor for the Flames,” said Nyamilandu. n
