Fears of MSCE exam leakage

Listen to this article

There are fears that questions from some papers in this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations have leaked.

Some of these questions are from English I and II, Agriculture I, Chichewa I and Geography II.

For instance some students claimed they had questions 56 and 57 and knew a poem that was going to come in English Paper I. The poem is titled “Leaders of Tomorrow” by George Pungulani.

But Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) public relations officer Simeon Maganga doubted that the said questions from some papers originated from the examination papers.

Maganga: Asked for leaked paper in advance

Said Maganga: “As Maneb we still maintain that we be furnished with a copy of the purported leaked paper(s) well in advance before the writing time of that paper. Until then, we may not be comfortable to be commenting on text messages circulating on social media surrounding the exam.”

Some sources sitting for this year’s examinations, who pleaded for anonymity, said there are candidates who have real questions and are sharing them with friends using various forms of media.

“Some of our friends got these questions sometime back but they are refusing to share with us,” complained one candidate who did not want to be mentioned.

The situation has also led to a rise of scammers who are selling bogus examination papers to desperate candidates.

Some students in Blantyre, especially women, have been buying such papers purported to be MSCE exams. One could pay up to K10 000 for one subject or more for a set of exams. n
