Kungwe music is here, as the groundbreaking Fikisa trio launch their debut album in Lilongwe today [Sunday].

The album’s executive producer and the Nyimbo Music Company label CEO Daudi Suleiman said fun lovers should brace for high times as the fun moves to Munali Mungo Park this afternoon before trekking to Summit Cultural Centre in the Capital.

“The music is finally here and everything is set. It is a full brand new act as Fikisa will perform all the 14 tracks in the album, unlike in the past when they only performed a few songs,” said Suleiman.

The fun, he said will also include Soldier Lucius Banda, who was christened Sir last Sunday by promoter Jai Banda aka Mr Entertainer. Apart from that Lawrence Mbenjere, the Nyemba Nyemba boys and Kang’ombe Boys Band will spice up the fun at Mungo Park, while Banda and his Zembani troops will miss out at the Summit performance.

“After the launch, we are looking forward to a Malawi tour. We also anticipate the production of the Fikisa DVD which will be out in two months time,” said Suleiman.

Renowned for their Ademwiche track (often referred to as Akamwile) Fikisa is a trio comprising Godfrey Thom and his cousins Saidi and Selemani. They formerly traded as the Village Cultural Troupe before they were roped in by Tay Grin.

“We hope people will come and support the music. In the DVD we will show the context in which Kungwe music is played during initiation ceremonies down by the lakeside,” said Suleiman.

Their club banging ethno urban music is known for its deep roots that transport people through a time and space.
