Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says phase three of voters’ roll inspection, which is the final phase, will start tomorrow and end on Monday next week. In a statement, MEC chief elections officer Willie Kalonga has said the final phase will cover the remaining councils in the Central Region such as Ntcheu, Dedza, Lilongwe City, Lilongwe District, Mchinji, Dowa, Ntchisi and Kasungu.“These voters should go with their voter certificate to the centre where they wish to vote and ask to be transferred. Without a voter certificate, a transfer will not be processed,” he said. Kalonga also said it remains an electoral offence to transfer voters to places where they are not eligible. “Those found risk prosecution whereby they can be given a fine or prison sentence and can be disqualified from participating in electoral activities if found guilty,” said Kalonga.—MERCY MALIKWA,Staff Reporter
