Reacting to the draw on Sunday, senior player Joseph Kamwendo, assistant coach Jack Chamangwana and FAM president Walter Nyamilandu described it as tricky.

“Oh my God! Not Chad again?

“Anyway, we could not have asked for anything better looking at the teams that are there, but it is tricky. With good preparations, we should have an upper hand,” said Kamwendo in a telephone interview from his Lumbumbashi base in DR Congo.

Chamangwana said: “It is a fair draw, but we will have to win the first leg at home. That will be crucial.”

Nyamilandu described the draw as tough.

“With the experience we have had with them, it won’t be easy.

“Last time, they frustrated us from qualifying for 2012 Nations Cup and we still have bitter memories. There is no longer small opposition. We have always had an upper hand, but we struggle all the time,” said the FAM president.

Malawians still have bitter memories of Chad when they denied the Flames a successive Afcon qualification in 2012, when they equalised in the last minute of added time in N’djamena to force a 2-2 draw.

In the 2013 preliminary qualifiers the two teams met again, but the Flames excelled.

Nine of the teams involved in the preliminary qualifiers, are from the Cosafa bloc as if to underline their inferiority.

Other fixtures are as follows: Zimbabwe vs Tanzania, Mozambique vs South Sudan, Swaziland vs Sierra Leone, Namibia vs Congo Brazaville, Madagascar vs Uganda, Liberia vs Lesotho, Burundi vs Botswana and Gambia vs Seychelles.
