Mataka was responding to a request from Mchinji District Council chairperson Peter Chipanga to extend the sponsorship to netball.

In response, Mataka said: “After the request was made, we started discussing right here with the Minister of Youth Development and Sports Grace Chiumia. As a listening bank, I want to assure you that we will sit down and consider the request.”

She said FMB is proud to be associated with the Under-20 football league.

“We did not want to sponsor theSuper League or the national team but Under-20 league because it is the nursery of football in the country. There can’t be Super League or national team without nursery leagues. We are proud that our league provides players to the senior teams,” sid Mataka

Chiumia, who was guest of honour at the launch, said her ministry will help the bank in uplifting grass roots football.

“As government, we will help you in your programmes of supporting grass roots football. Let me also appeal to the community to open accounts with FBM as a token of appreciation to the good gesture the bank is showing to the community,” said Chiumia.

Also speaking at the launch, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive member James Mwenda and NYFA general secretary Thoko Chimbali promised to safeguard the sponsorship. Mwenda also said FAM has set aside K4.6 million to help the NYFA in administrative matters and will donate 50 match balls.
