Four Nigerians arrested over car park thefts

Listen to this article

Four suspected thieves who seemed to master the art of springing open peoples’s locked car doors and apparently stealing valuables from the vehicles, have been arrested by police in Lilongwe.

All the four, who were arrested at City Centre on Friday, are Nigerians.

They are Joseph Okoye, aged 28, Erick Ochuku, 35, Daniel Edeiguru, 37, and Emmanuel Uka, 37.

Lilongwe Police Station publicist Kingsley Dandaula says the arrest came after police received and applied intelligence to track down the suspects who had recently left a trail of complaints by car owners whose property had been stolen from locked vehicles at car parks in Lilongwe.

He said police detectives also impounded a vehicle the four were driving in.

A search turned out two crudely-made master keys which can open most locked car doors.
