Friends of Limbani, an initiative that has been raising money for journalist Limbani Moya’s kidney transplant in India, has made a fresh appeal to well-wishers for K1.25 million to finance an anti-rejection injection bill.

Moya flew to India on October 20 for the surgery that was due last Friday.

Said Kasunda: “Mr Moya was expected to undergo kidney transplant on Friday, November 21 2014, after satisfying all the medical and legal requirements. Unfortunately, the procedure did not take place due to unavailability of the said money for the injection.

“Fellow Malawians, this is a sad and pathetic development. We already demonstrated that as a people, we can come together to help each other in times of need. It will be very sad and painful if Mr Moya comes back from India without undergoing kidney transplant because we have failed to assist him with K1.5 million to cover for the injection bill.”

Kasunda said the hospital has given a grace period to Moya to raise the money to enable doctors conduct the kidney transplant.

Those wishing to assist Moya can deposit their contributions to the following bank details at First Merchant Bank (FMB) Blantyre Branch: Account Number: 5200740001, Account Name: Friends of Limbani or contact Kasunda on 0999952457/888852457 or akasunda2008@gmail.com.

The initiative raised about K10 million (US$20 000) from individuals and corporations to enable Moya, his spouse and sister travel to India.
