George Chaponda

Newly-appointed leader of the House, I would not dismiss pictures that showed me sleeping during Friday’s State of the Nation Address (Sona) by President Peter Mutharika as fake because the images were also shown live by Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) television.

While I cannot accept I took a nap for fear of being taken to task by my boss, President Mutharika, the best way was just to keep quiet.

How I wish I were Honourable Chaponda as I would appreciate that it was embarrassing for me to take a nap when my boss was delivering such an important address, more so when I have just been appointed the leader of the House.

If I were one George Chaponda, perhaps I would take it upon myself to apologise to the big shot before he cracks his whip on me.

Oh yes, if I were Chaponda, I would also realise that I am human after all and after tireless tasks that go with my position, I am bound to fall in the dreamland unknowingly and that would not imply that I got bored with the President’s address.

That is if only I were my man George Chaponda, but I am not him! n
