If I were

George Jana

Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) executive secretary, I would not try to halt Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s K44 million donation to the Malawi national soccer team, the Flames, on the basis that the man of God did not follow the normal process. I would realise that there are a number of well-wishers who have donated to the team, including government, without going through the said process.

If I were the Sports Council boss, I would realise that it did not make sense for government, through Sports Council, to try and stop Football Association of Malawi (FAM) from accepting the donation from ‘Major 1’ which came at a time when the same government had told FAM that there was no money to meet its shortfall for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea.

Oh yes, if I were my good friend George, I would have also asked myself what should have been of immediate concern considering the circumstances-the need for the Flames or the so-called procedure?

That is if only I were Jana. Unfortunately, I am not the boss responsible for sports in the country. n
