Winger Gerald Phiri Junior, who the Flames’ selectors appear to overlook, continues to prove himself in the Zimbabwe Premiership where he plays for Caps United.

Phiri stepped off the bench in the 52nd minute to score his second against Dynamos in a Harare derby at the National Stadium on Sunday. Digital satellite televion’s SuperSport channel 9 broadcast the match.

A week after returning from SuperSport United trials in South Africa, Phiri whipped into the net a direct free-kick that cancelled out Dynamos’ Murae Murape’s 26th minute opener. Compatriot Ishmael Thindwa came on the 90th minute, and is yet to score for Caps.

“The goal, which came direct from a free-kick in the 56th minute, just four minutes after the Malawian was introduced as replacement for Moses Muchenje, appeared to have revitalised the Green Machine as they raised their game after playing second fiddle to Dynamos in the opening half. Phiri changed the complexion of the game as he made crucial moves in midfield.” reported Herald newspaper yesterday.

In South Africa, Ajax Cape Town director Ari Efstathiou says new loan signing Robin Ngalande from Wits University will add “huge value” to the team.

“We are very excited to have signed Robin for the upcoming season. Even though he is only 21, he is an experienced player and will add huge value to our squad. We are certain he will fit in our team like a glove,” reported www.ajaxct.co.za.
