Malawi Freunde Rottenburg —an association established with support from the German Embassy to promote education in Malawi—has reaffirmed its commitment towards promoting education standards in the country through provision of technical and financial support.

The association’s chairperson Holger Keppel made the commitment over the weekend on the sidelines of a dinner organised in honour of a German delegation that officially handed over a girls’ hostel to Tawuka Private Secondary School in Karonga.PUPILS

The German Embassy constructed the hostel together with the association as part of efforts to contribute to girls’ education through provision of safe and clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.

The delegation, comprising four members of the association, flew back to Germany on Monday after fulfilling a number of assignments aimed at promoting girls’ education in the country.

Said Keppel: “We’re particularly impressed by initiatives that both government and the private sector are undertaking to improve the quality of education in the country. I wish to reaffirm our commitment towards improving the standards of education in Malawi.”

The school’s executive director Felix Mkandawire commended the association for the support rendered to both the institution and needy students.

“Your support is critical to lifting up the poor families as education is the only reliable tool to poverty eradication,” Mkandawire said.
