Mzuzu City Council (MCC) has secured K2.5 million from GOtv for rehabilitation of part of the VIP Stand at Mzuzu Stadium, which was blown off by a hailstorm late last year.

MCC acting chief executive officer Victor Masina told The Nation on Wednesday that the support has come as a result of a partnership the council created with GOtv.

“In this partnership, GOtv will also benefit because they will advertise their brand in the stadium,” said Masina, who also indicated that the maintenance work has already started.

“Football lovers should be assured that the damaged part of the stadium will be renovated before the start of the Super League season on April 18,” he said.

Recently, Minister of Sports Grace Chiumia vowed to take Mzuzu City Council to task over negligence to renovate the stadium.

MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda, whose company also manages GOtv, could not be reached for comment on the support to MCC. n
