Government hails rotarians

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Emmanuel Fabiano has hailed Rotary clubs in the country for their efforts to help needy communities.

He said this in Lilongwe when Rotary International president elect Barry Rassin gave him a courtesy call as he wound up a five-day tour of the country.

Fabiano said the presence of the Rotary Club is felt across communities in various areas of development, adding this is why he was eager to meet Rassin on behalf of President Peter Mutharika.

“Government is fully aware of the impact you have made in communities and your actions could lead to change of mentality because many people think government is responsible for everything. But government is not an individual it is all of us. This is why I would urge you to be more visible and have more people learn from your spirit,” he said.

In an interview later, Rassin described his tour of duty in Malawi as both exciting and inspiring.

He said he was particularly happy with the coordination among clubs and that their level of commitment was amazing.

Rassin has since left for Mozambique to tour Rotary clubs in that country. n
