Henry Mussa
Henry Mussa, Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, I would realise that writing off Youth Enterprise Development Fund (Yedef) unpaid loans glorifies and entrenches a culture of not repaying government loans among Malawians especially the youth who need this capital more than anyone else.
If I were Mtengowaminga, I would order Yedef authorities to recover every tambala to clear the misconception that government loans are handouts and rewards for political zealotry.
If I were in Mussa’s ministerial seat for a day, I would not rush to declare unpaid Yedef loans irrecoverable because the list of toxic loans is lengthening despite calls against politicisation of public funds.
Yes, if I were the minister entrusted with developing skills and business potential of the youth, who constitute the majority of our population, I would ensure the defaulters and negligent Yedef officials pay for every tambala they have stolen from young Malawians. After all, offenders need to be reminded of their responsibilities in a memorable way.
But I am just Garry. n
