If I were

IF I WERE: Peter Mutharika

Listen to this article

President of the Republic of Malawi, I would realise that it is difficult for people to believe my claims that I have always had a sound working relationship with my Vice-President Saulos Chilima, especially when one considers how the Veep was being snubbed by the State machinery and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

If I were the President, I would realise that my move to openly praise Chilima when I addressed a rally at Biwi Triangle was unusual because what was happening in the background was quite contrary.

Oh yes, Your Excellency, until the recent rally, the Vice-President did not have the honour of asking you to address the crowd; hence, to claim that the relationship has been cordial, is baffling.

Perhaps if I were APM, I would say that my relationship with the Veep is now cordial and not that it has always been excellent.

How I wish I were the President because I would appreciate that when the taxpayer funded Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) snubbed airing the Veep’s events until recently, then it paints a picture that all was not well and one can only assume that such orders can only come from above.

That is if I were Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi as well as the governing DPP, but it is a mere wish for I cannot be the ‘big man’. n
