More injury woes for Silver’s Paipi

Silver Strikers play-maker Thuso Paipi has aggravated his ankle injury when he all but appeared to have fully recovered and ready for the new season, the club has confirmed.

The winger was named as a substitute during the Bankers’ TNM Super League opening match, but was not in the squad that lost to Be Forward Wanderers 2-1 in their league opener on Saturday.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Silver Strikers team manager Francis Songo said Paipi aggravated the injury in the build up to the Super League season kick-off.

His ankle bones stiffened: Paipi

“We thought he had fully recovered, but it is shocking that he ended up suffering the same injury. He is an important player, so, it is a blow that he is not able to play at the moment,” he said.

Songo could not be drawn to give a timeframe as to when he would return, saying he was due to be assessed yesterday.

“He is undergoing physiotherapy and then we will be told when he will return to action,” he said.

But Songo said the team has been boosted by the return of midfielders Duncan Nyoni and new catch Lazurus Nyemera from injuries.

“Both were injured during pre-season preparation matches. But the good news is that they are back and ready for action,” he said.

Paipi, on his part, said his doctor told him that one of the ankle bones had stiffened and advised him to be off for a few weeks.

“From what the doctor said, the aggravation is not something that can sideline me for a long time. It’s a setback though because I want to play but it’s a short-term one,” he said.

The midfielder said the doctor recommended that he could start light training this week before another assessment to confirm his full fitness is carried out.
