For the first time, M’mbelwa District Council will on September 1 hold International Youth Day commemorations for the youth to showcase their skills and potential.
Mzimba district youth officer Samuel Gondwe confirmed this in an interview during a youth stakeholders’ meeting on Monday.
“We have a number of youths who rush to go to South Africa in search of greener pastures because they believe the society has nothing to offer for their economic survival.
“As such, activities on the day will include dialogue in youth economic empowerment programmes,” he said.
Mzimba Youth Network chairperson Moses Nkhana said the activities have been designed to unearth youth’s talent in sports, music and drama, among others.
Every year, Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating the International Youth Day which falls on August 12. n
