British singer, songwriter and actress Joss Stone will be in Malawi for a performance on December 1.

Born Jocelyn Eve Stoker, the artist’s tour is courtesy of Qoncept Creative, a Lilongwe-based entertainment outfit.

This is the first time for the firm to book a musician from Europe as the outfit has been bringing artists from Africa since it was launched two years ago.

The firm’s creative director Q Malewezi said in an interview Stone will perform at the Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) in Lilongwe.

“She is doing a world tour and we are hosting the Malawi concert. She has already been to a number of countries. We will soon announce supporting acts for the gig,” he said.

“There is a market for her music just as there is a market for the rest of the acts we have brought. It might be smaller, but adequate and well worth it on our part. We did our market research and we are happy with the results.”

Stone’s website, http://www.jossstone.com/gigs, also indicates that the artist will be in Malawi on December 1.

She will jet into Malawi from Kenya where she has a performance on November 26.

The R’n’B and soul music star rose to fame in late 2003 with her multi-platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions, which made it into the 2004 Mercury Prize shortlist.

Her second album, another multi-platinum, Mind Body & Soul topped the United Kingdom (UK) Album Chart for one week and contained the UK Top 10 hit You Had Me.

Her other famous songs include Right to be Wrong, Fell in Love With a Boy and Super Duper Love. n
