Journalists free to take pictures—Deputy IG

Malawi Police Service (MPS) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) responsible for administration Lexten Kachama has said journalists are free to take pictures of any dramatic scenes during police operations without seeking permission from officers on site.

photo-journalistsKachama said this on Tuesday at the National Police Headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe during a special interface between police and the media.

He said it was the duty of every police officer to ensure that they discharge their duties professionally and that no journalist is stopped from taking pictures at a public scene.

Earlier during the meeting, DIG responsible for operations, Rodney Jose, said the IG Paul Kanyama and the entire service regretted the recent assault of Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL) journalist Archibald Kasakura by a police officer in Blantyre for taking pictures during a sweeping exercise to rid streets of vendors.
