Blantyre will host the National Junior Tennis Championship at Country Club Limbe from August 26 to 27.
The tournament will involve Under-12, 14 and 16 players in both girls and boys categories.
According to the tournament director, Thompson Mtengula, the Central Region and Northern Region will contribute 10 players each while Southern Region being the hosts will feature 20 players.
The players will be identified through regional qualifying games set for this weekend at the country’s four tennis centres in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Zomba Gynkhana Club and Blantyre.
Sparc System is sponsoring the championship.
Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (Ltam) has since commended Sparc System for the support.
“We thank Sparc System management for listening to our plea to fund this national junior tennis tournament. It is our hope that the junior tennis players will prepare well so that they should show us the best,” said Ltam general secretary Stan Kaunda.
“We cannot secure good national team players without tournaments. It is my appeal to other companies to emulate Sparc System’s good gesture.” n
