Senior Chief Kachindamoto of Dedza District has appealed to government and its partners to build more girls’ hostels if efforts to promote education among girls are to bear fruits.

Honoured: Kachindamoto

Kachindamoto, who has won international awards for stopping child marriages, said this on Friday at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi where she was invited by officials of Indviduell Manniskohjalp (IM), a Swedish Development Partner and other delegates to explain how she has managed to annul 2 449 child marriages and returned them back to school.

She said there are many girls willing to go back to school but long distances to schools were letting them down as well as exposing them to men who later fall in love with them, thereby derailing their ambitions.

In her remarks, IM secretary general Ann Svensen commended the chief, saying what she is doing is something worthwhile to be copied by other countries in order to end child marriages. n
