Sope Kaira and Beatrice Mangwana on Sunday turned on a classic display to win the inaugural Twenty Third Century Systems (TTCS) Malawi Golf Tournament in men and ladies’ categories, respectively at Thyolo Sports Club (TSC).

Played in extremely sweltering conditions, the 13-handicaped Kaira counted out Yohane Mzuza (18h/c) on 46 points in a tight contest that went down to the wire. Yasin Njalale (16h/c) came third on 40 points.

Visibly floating on air, Kaira said he felt proud to become the first champion of the business solutions provider’s first golf tournament.

“And it couldn’t have been sweeter than winning it at TSC which is my lucky golf course,” he said.

Four birdies, three pars and two bogeys on back nine were the centrepiece of Kaira’s triumph who also had five pars, three bogeys and one double bogey on front nine.

Mangwana, who registered 42 points—five ahead of her runner-up Teri Amaro— also said she was delighted at winning TTCS’ inaugural golf tournament.

The ladies champion also had the longest drive on hole nine whereas Doreen Kabvala was nearest to the pin.

In men’s section,  Hudson Kantwanje had the longest drive whereas Harold Lungu was nearest to the pin. Kaira, Sangwani Hara, Yotam Saka and Devlin Chokazinga had two clubs.

The winners received trophies and printers.

TTCS managing director Gilford Kapyola said they sponsored the tournament to thank Makande Tea Estates who were one of their first customers.

“We appreciate what Makande has done to us, they were our first customer and through them, we have managed to secure other customers.

“We also felt the tournament could provide us a platform to interact with potential customers so that they get to know about our services and that they, too, could inform others about our business,” he said.

TTCS is a Pan-African business solutions provider which focuses on implementing SAP-based solutions across Africa and the Middle East in sectors such as government, mining, manufacturing, social security as well as tax and revenue collecting agencies.

TSC golf captain Rajeev Singh Rawat thanked the sponsors and the golfers for what he described as a “wonderful inaugural tournament.” n
