Shot in Salima and Lilongwe, the two-hour long Mlandu Wa Njinga chronicles the life of a young man named Ntaja played by Ralph Lunga who comes out of prison and goes around looking for Anna, played by Princess Tapiwa Chilambula whom he wanted to marry prior to his incarceration.

Dolo is Anna’s husband, a role which is played by Kossam Jossam. Other actors include Apatsa Kwilimbe, Cathy Maveya and Yusu Sabiku.

Finally out: Mlandu Wa Njinga

Kambalu said he is excited to have completed work on the film, he said has taken him two years to produce.

“I am thrilled to finally release Mlandu Wa Njinga. I feel motivated to create a longer movie,” he said.

Kambalu, who doubles as an actor and painter, won the two awards in 2015 with his film titled Going South.

Mlandu Wa Njinga also features several musicians, including Jaco Jana, Agorosso, Malala, Neil Nayer, Moto Buuu and JJ Munthali.

On how he juggles the acting and painting talents, Kambalu said he has always wanted to expand his art.

“I have always wanted to extend my practice, but painting has been a limiting factor in terms of coverage. As a painter, I serve very few clients who usually take art work into the privacy of their homes. With acting I believe I will be able to reach out to millions of people,” said Kambalu.
