Flames duo Joseph Kamwendo and Zicco Mkanda’s team, Liga Maculmana, has won the Mozambican flagship Mocambola League.

Such has been the luxury of Maculmana’s dominance that they have won the league with two games to play as they stand at the summit of the table with 51 points, 10 ahead of their closest contenders Ferrviario de Beira.

Their league title triumph was confirmed on Saturday when they beat Matchedje 1-0.

Kamwendo could not hide his excitement at winning the league title: “The Lord, Almighty is good all the time. I am happy with what I have achieved, it means a lot to me personally. We have had a fantastic season.”

Kamwendo has so far scored four goals in the league season.

Meanwhile, Kamwendo has said he is scheduled to travel to Lubumbashi next month for talks with TP Mazembe regarding transfer terms.

“Whether I will join TP will be determined by the outcome of that meeting; otherwise, I am here as I still have two more years on my contract.

“If the TP move does not work, then I will come back home for a two-month break before coming back here for pre-season preparations,” he said.

Chiukepo Msowoya and Moses Chavula’s Maxaquene, who won the tile last year, are now on fourth position with 38 points, but Msowoya has regained his scoring form as he has eight league goals.

Foster Namwela, Simplex Nthala, Rafique Mussa and Vincent Chinthenga’s Ferrviario de Nampula are a distant eighth position with 32 points from 24 games.
