Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has given contractor for Karonga Stadium August 30 this year as the deadline to complete the project.

Nangaunozge Building Contractors are constructing the facility which is expected to cost K504 million.

Construction started in September 2015 and was initially expected to take 18 months, but almost 20 months down the line, it has not been completed.

Mughogho: They accepted

Local Development Fund (LDF), financiers of the project, recently extended the project by 30 days.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development spokesperson Muhlabase Mughogho confirmed in an interview with The Nation the deadline given to the contractor.

“We  have given the contractors a deadline of up to  30 August and they have accepted,” she said.

Nangaunozge Building Contractors owner Henry Shaba could not be reached for comment yesterday,  but an officer at the project site said much as most of the work has been completed, it might not be possible to finalise everything by the set deadline.

Karonga district commissioner Richard Hara refused to comment on the matter, saying he is yet to receive latest information on the project progress so far. n
