Which of the two families, Kayunis and Masambas, is better at throwing jabs? Come Sunday afternoon for answers as Osgood and Malani Kayuni take on Limbani and Wilson Masamba respectively, at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe.

Osgood and Limbani clash in a 12-round title bout organised by Superior Boxing Promotions under the guidance of Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) while Malani and Wilson will tussle in an eight-round main supporting bout.

Osgood and Wilson are experienced Malawi Defence Force (MDF) pugilists while their young brothers are not only set to sell themselves to local boxing promoters but also to exalt their family names among the adoring boxing fans.

Of course, Limbani managed to beat his bigger opponent on points during a non-title match last year, but this will be a different story altogether, according to Osgood.

“I am not getting into this bout just to restore my status as the best boxer on the land but also to protect my family name,” said 27-year-old Osgood, whose record shows 25 wins, two draws and four defeats.

Limbani, who has won 11 fights and lost thrice, said he is set to triumph again. He is being prepared by his other elder brother, John, ahead of the bout.

Wilson told The Nation on Wednesday that there is no way the Kayuni brothers can register wins considering the victorious boxing blood that flows in his family’s veins. His late father Gabriel Masamba was also a revered boxer.
