Lasting impressions of Malawi Fashion Week

Listen to this article

The first Malawi Fashion Week is over, luckily leaving us with beautiful collections and swoon-worthy garments to gawk on for a while.

The inaugural fashion week was indeed one of a kind fashion event that showed that the face of fashion in Malawi is indeed changing.

Acting as a trendsetter for Malawi style, fashion and local material, it was evident that Malawi has creative talent.

For three days, guests, designers, journalists, among others, enjoyed a wide range of creations by over 11 designers. Although they were not targeting seasons, designers chose tones that appealed to their inner beings.

“I am a dark person and I usually work with bright colours like pinks and yellows because that’s what makes me stand out,” explained Sandra Msonga of Spectacular.

True to her word, all clothes in her collection had a dash of pink, yellow or orange.

The event may be over, but it leaves unforgettable impressions that will make many to shop until they have nothing left to shop with.

Many promising young talents showed their creations, which were hailed by fashion enthusiasts from all over Lilongwe.

In general, the materials seemed elevated, whether the colour-blocked, body-skimming halter dresses and shorts with suspenders that tied and fell into tassels down the back.

As much as we used to be in the dark in terms of fashion in Malawi the MFW illuminated the future of fashion.

In this sense, many are looking forward to the upcoming season with curiosity on what adventure fashion designers will take the next time!
