Lawi nominated for Afrima

Musician Lawi, who was nominated for the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima), said on Wednesday he is all set for the awards night in Nigeria tomorrow.

African music lovers’ eyes and ears are set to the Grand Ballroom of Oriental Hotel in Lagos, where winning musicians from five regions will be presented with a mic-and-djembe shaped trophy.

Said Lawi: “The nomination is a great thing for me. I am just finalising the paperwork for my trip to Lagos.”

The Amaona Kuchedwa hitmaker was nominated in the Best Male, Southern Africa Artiste for The Whistling Song, which is in his self-titled album, released in January.

He faces Angolans Eddy Tussa and Kueno Aionda, South African Heavy K, Namibian The Dogg and Jah Prayzah of Zimbabwe.

According to the the Afrima website, the awards are held to celebrate the unity in diversity of African music.
