24-year-old Madalo Mkuwu is set to carry the Malawi flag and advance her modelling career when she takes part in the Global super model competition set to take place in October in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Global super model series is an agency that uses modelling to raise awareness about cancer.

In an interview with The Nation, Mkuwu said she is prepared to strut her stuff on the run away and is positive that she will win the top prize which is $5 000 plus a modelling contract with various magazines courtesy of Global super model international.

Mkuwu: I was born to be a model

Said Mkuwu: “I was born to be a model and I believe I will do better after this competition. I have just been identified to also represent Malawi in Nigeria in the Miss Polo International.”

She explained that at the competition models will compete in the best bikini body, best cancer project and best national costume.

“I got this opportunity after my participation in the Miss Heritage Malawi where I came out as the first runner-up. I was not happy because I wanted the top position. However, it still opened up doors for me as I was identified by the president of Global super model,” she said.

Mkuwu has also modelled for Cathy Kanthunzi in the past.

She is also a signed up model for Lush Africa, a fashion events planning company.

Commenting on the new opportunity, Lush Africa director Lorraine Kljajic said Madalo is highly intelligent and smart which will help her make it on the international scene.

“In Nigeria where she will go in February next year, I believe she will make an impression and clinch more deals. In Harare I can only wish her all the best and I believe she will win and get more international deals,” added Kljajic.

Said Kljajic: “I believe not all beautiful intelligent ladies can win Miss Malawi. Whats important is to create and open opportunities for some girls who still aspire to represent Malawi on a different platform.”

She added that as Lush Africa, they are linked with more international competitions and they will link and support those aspiring Malawi girls to represent their country on the international level.
