Local ventures into trailer manufacturing
Circumstances usually force people to act. Trained as a motor vehicle mechanic at the Polytechnic, Matthias Juwack worked for a number of companies such as Leyland and DAF, PEW and Henred Fruehauf before he became independent.
In 2012, when Henred Fruehauf scaled down its operations due to the scarcity of forex, Juwack found himself jobless.
To make ends meet, Juwack got into a trailer manufacturing business based on the skills he got from Henred.
“This is how I came to stand on my own. I started this business in February this year. The Trailer Manufacturing Group [TMG] is a trailer-manufacturing company where we refurbish, paint and manufacture trailers, among other things,” says the father of three daughters.
His journey to entrepreneurship started when he completed his motor vehicle mechanic training in1992 and attained a grade one trade test certificate.
From 1994, Juwack worked at PEW specialising in trailers and buses until 2004 when he joined Henred Fruehauf where he says he also gained a lot of experience which led him where he is today.
His local trailer manufacturing company started out with trailer repairs, but now they are building them from a scratch and the managing director says he plans to start building tankers in the next 6 to 12 months.
Juwack has employed 20 people in different areas, including welding, mechanics and painting.
Most of the raw materials are imported from South Africa and these include steel and finishing parts such as braking and electronic systems.
Juwack, who was born on March 25 1968, comes from Chitala Village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.

Sad to hear about the attempted assassination of the government Budget Director Mr Mphwiyo.
The rumours are that there was evidence of unanimous threats of his life. What people would like
to know is what did security analysists or intelligence analysits do in this threats to protect this
important government officer who has devised a tight and prudent financial system to stop theft
and loss of government, donors and tax-payers money been misused and enrich people who
have not worked for the money.
The question now is what are the National security services and Home Affairs ministries responsible
for security been doing all along when this kind of threat was known? Why did they not provide armed
guards for his personal safety?I have seen Ministers been provided with armed policemen and dont
understand the security need for such as do not see any threat at all for these politicians. It is waste of
tax-payers money to provide armed guards to useless Malawian ministers paid by tax-payers money.
The Home Affairs Minister should be questioned about this incident whether he knew anything about
these threats and if he knew what did he do to protect this officer.
This the reason why government appointments on Ministers of such important departments should be
based on merit and not political patronage as it leads to incompetence as is in the current case and
circumstance-The Minister responsible for Internal security is useless and incompetent as is the case
with most other departments and ministries.
Next important thing is for the Police to arrest the criminals and find the motive behind the shooting through
all sources beginning with checking records of phone calls of suspects and bring all involved to justice.
