With three days to go before this year’s Lake of Stars Festival, organisers are leaving no stone unturned in drumming up support for the event.

The organisers have launched a mobile application with information on the event, including a full schedule, according to social media manager Vincent Kumwenda.

He said: “There are also biographies of artists performing at the festival and links to their social media platforms, ticket information and partners supporting the festival and links to their websites.

“There is also a picture gallery from the previous event and users can upload their pictures on the app to share experiences with the rest of the world. The app is available on multiple platforms, including Android.”

This year’s event takes place at Chintheche in Nkhata Bay from September 30 to October 2.

Kumwenda said the application was developed last year, but it was not launched and a number of details have changed.

“Lake of Stars is a big festival which contributes a lot to the tourism sector and to the economy of Malawi. There is need for all sectors, including the technology sector to support the festival; hence, the development of the app.

“This is a give-out information regarding the festival to the outside world. The app also presents a chance to show the world that Malawians are capable of developing technological solutions as such, the app will still be operational and updates will be there even after the event,” he added.

The app has been wholly developed in Malawi by developers, at mHub.

Apart from supporting the technological aspect of the festival, mHub will also set up and run a tent at the event.
