He first launched it in South Africa. Then he launched it in Lilongwe last month. Now, on April 28 2018, veteran musician Lucius Banda takes his 19th album Crimes to Mzuzu for a launch.

This is an opportunity for Banda’s fans in the green city to sample the latest offering live on stage. The event will take place at Squirrels Park in the city.

In an interview, Banda said he wants to reach out to all his fans nationwide with his new album. He said he will perform almost all songs from his new album “for people to listen and understand it”.

“We, as Zembani Band, have always united the country through our music. We have tried our best to make sure that what happens in Blantyre or Lilongwe must also happen in Mzuzu.

“That’s why we also take international artists to Mzuzu. For example, Lucky Dube’s Band performed in all cities. This is why we are launching the album in Mzuzu, because we believe we have fans there,” he said.

Banda said he will also use the show to introduce to the public controversial musician Joe Gwaladi who will perform live in Mzuzu for the first time.

“People have heard his music; they have seen him on television and on the streets. But it’s now time to see him perform live on stage in the city,” he said.

The show in Mzuzu has been organised in partnership with Sun Gold who are promoting Sun Gold Soya Pieces.

He said the institution is also sponsoring his event in the city.

“It is not easy to hold events in Mzuzu without the support of the corporate. So, people should come in large numbers because they will have free packets of soya pieces at the door,” he said.

Squirrels Park Promotions managing director Keliophas Tobius said preparations for the event in the city are at an advanced stage. He said his firm is working on making sure that there is tight security at the venue to avoid cases of theft and violence.
