Malawi’s Afro-R&B singer and guitarist, Lawrence Khwisa, popularly known as Lulu, is recording a new album in South Africa, he confirmed in an interview on Tuesday.

Lulu said that the album will be produced by Erik Paliani, a Malawian music producer and guitarist based in South Africa and other top record producers from that country.

“It’s a big project which will be released by a top music company and the music is different from what I have been doing. I’m taking a slight new approach which targets the international market and it’s a big investment,” explained Lulu.

The multi-talented MAM Awards nominee however, did not mention the company which he is working with, saying they will announce when time is right to do so.

The yet-to-be-titled record will be coming out after Lulu’s 2012 project Ndakudziwa, which comprises the hit singles Ndzalera, Mtima Wakana and Mponyere.

Meanwhile, Lulu, who has been travelling to South Africa lately for the project is back in the country and is slated to hold several shows themed ‘Lulu Can Play A Guitar’ beginning this weekend.

Tomorrow, Lulu and his Mathumela Band will be at Chez Ntemba International Club in Lilongwe from 9pm, and on October 4, the Lilongwe-based band will perform at Mibawa Arts Café in Blantyre.

“My visits and stay in South Africa has helped me a lot to acquire new guitar skills and I must say these guys am working with are very serious, mature and experienced in music. The theme has come about because I want to showcase these new skills to my audience here at home,” said Lulu.
