Lumeta, Luhanga shine in 2015 tennis tourney

Chisomo Lumeta and Mary Luhanga proved why they should be termed Malawi’s best tennis players having dominated this year’s K950 000 National Presidential Senior tennis championship held on Sunday at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).

Lumeta scooped position one in the men’s senior category as his pair also triumphed in the men’s double competition.

He defeated James Matewere in the finals of 26 participants.

Luhanga sustained his good display having outclassed a field of 18 contestants in the women’s single category.

His pair ZioneNkhoma in the double category also scooped position one.

Lumeta received K100 000 (US$)222 for being the champion in the men’s single category while Luhanga got K90 000 (US$200) for being number one in the women’s single category.

Tadala Kandulu, who scooped position two in the women’s single, received K60 000 (US$133) while the runners-up in the men’s single category Matewere got K70 000 (US$156).

Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi president Titani Muwalo thanked participants for the good display in the tournament.

He added that they should sustain their hard working spirit because the sport is beneficial not only for health, but also in financial gains.  Karonga Central legislator Frank Mwenefumbo , who at the golf club, handed over the prize money after being requested.
