Lusubilo to perform at Miss Malawi
Straight from a tour of Germany, Karonga-based Lusubilo Band will spice up the 2016/17 Miss Malawi regional finals at Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu on Saturday night.
It is a red-carpet event that brings together six contestants who will strut the runways in an attempt to convince the judges for a slot in the national finals set for Lilongwe on April 29 next year.
Tickets for the showdown are available at Grand Palace Hotel, Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) and Nation Publications Limited (NPL) offices at Mpico House in Mzuzu.
The two leading media houses are also the brains behind the beauty pageant, which has also attracted sponsorship from Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam), Beata Printing Solutions, Grand Palace Hotel and Chatonda Lodge.
Lusubilo Band’s mentor Charles Sinetre said the youthful band members are ready for the event which is in line with their aspiration to promote Malawi’s tourism and culture.
“The tour in Germany has helped us improve in numerous ways. And this will be our first performance after returning from Germany on Wednesday. So, fans should expect the best,” he said.
Lusubilo, together with Ulimba musicians from Nsanje and Germany’s Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (Ameo), had three performances at Dresden on October 27, Berlin on October 29 and Frankfurt on October 30.
The band’s founder Agnes Chungja said tickets for the shows were sold out and that the audiences were impressed with the Malawian music such that they received standing ovation at the end of each show.
The band also impressed during the Lake of Stars Festival last month with patrons speaking highly of their performance.
Meanwhile, NPL marketing manager Albert Banda has said the organisers—leading media houses NPL and (ZBS)—have slashed the entry fee from K6 000 to K4 500 for very important persons and from K3 500 to K2 000 for others.
“This has been done to allow more people in the Northern Region to come and witness the Miss Malawi regional finals where contestants will compete for the national finals,” he said. n
