Machinga pupils told to fight trachoma

Country representative for Heart to Heart Foundation, Suemin Han, has said the battle against trachoma can be won in Malawi if learners in primary schools countrywide are educated on the significance of washing their faces as well as taking care of their surroundings to prevent breeding of flies that fuel the multiplication of bacteria that causes trachoma.

Han was speaking at Liwonde, Machinga on Thursday when her organisation hosted the 2015 Facial Washing and Environmental Improvement Forum.

The event was aimed at presenting to government officials, community leaders as well as other stakeholders outcomes of the one year ‘elimination of trachoma project’ her foundation is implementing in the district with technical support from the Korean International Agency (Koica) and the Korean Air Ticket Solidarity Contribution.

Machinga South parliamentarian Grant Ndecha commended the foundation for its timely intervention and called on relevant duty-bearers to provide more trachoma training and interface meetings in the district. n
