The decision to suspend coach Audilow Makonyola as Epac FC coach has exposed serious divisions within the team’s leadership.

The team’s general secretary Roy-Abromo Mdechi has faulted the timing and procedure used to fire the coach.

“I am not amused with our chairperson Trickson Chiutsi’s decision to fire the coach without consulting.

“As GS, I was not even consulted I only learnt about it through the grapevine. There are serious problems within the leadership and that is one of the reasons why the team is struggling,” said Mdechi.

He admitted that the team’s leadership has not been pulling in the same direction, allegedly because of Mdechi’s dictatorial tendencies.

However, Chiutsi shrugged off Mdechi’s claims, saying he was not party to the meeting that made the decision.

“It is not true for him to claim that the decision was made without consulting because except for him [Mdechi], the entire executive was present at the said meeting.

“In fact, Mdechi has not been attending meetings for almost a month now due to pressure of work. It was agreed in that meeting that based on the team’s recent performance, the coach should not travel with the team to Mzuzu,” said Chiutsi.

He added that even if the coach travelled to Mzuzu, it would not change anything as the results of the team have not been impressive.

Makonyola has been replaced in an interim capacity by his assistant Innocent Lungu.

The team’s patron Dini Josaya-Banda refused to comment on the matter and referred the Nation on Sunday to Chiutsi.
