Both AAM president Godfrey Phiri and Malamula confirmed the development in separate interviews.

“We have received several nominations and Mr. Malamula is one of those interested to compete for the position of general secretary,” said Phiri, who is yet to get any challenger.

Thandi Mbeya will run for the position of vice-secretary against incumbent Irene Luka whereas Christopher Kabwazi will contest for the position of vice-treasurer, according to Phiri.

On his part, Malamula said he has potential to run the athletics body.

“I have been at Malawi School Sports Association for almost 10 years and l believe l have enough experience to run athletics in Malawi. I look forward to working towards the development of athletics in Malawi,” he said.

However, he could not say if he will resign from Massa or hold both positions if he wins.

The office bearers will have a four-year term. n
