Malawi drama boss weds in Germany

National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) president Manaseh Chisiza, who is in Germany for a course in arts management, has wedded a German actress and singer Andrea Beyerlein.

The wedding was officiated on Thursday at the Tønder Council and reception was at Cafe Victoria where Denmark-based Malawian musician Kid Mkandawire was present.

Chisiza confirmed this on Saturday in an interview through WhatsApp.

He said he took advantage of his studies in Germany to formalise his more than a-year-old relationship.

“We talked to parents and families about the wedding. We were advised on what to do. And we produced all documents needed by officials at the council. They verified with our governments and gave us a date,” he said.

Beyerlein was in Malawi three months ago. She visited Lusubilo Music Centre where Chisiza is based. She recorded a song which was composed, arranged and produced by Tiwonge Hango.

She was also featured in a recorded stage comedy.

Meanwhile, Chisiza is studying arts management for children and youth at Møgeltønder Institute of Performing Arts.

He said his studies will help him develop the arts back home, especially to reinvigorate the declining love of theatre.

“I feel there has been a gap in recent years to connect generations on the love of art, especially theatre. Very few like the art of theatre, in terms of actors as well as audience. We need to build love of art at a tender age,” he said.

Chisiza manages projects at Lusubilo Band’s base, Lusubilo Music Centre in Karonga.
