Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) on Friday gave various relief items to flood victims in Mulanje and Phalombe districts valued at K31 million.

Speaking after presenting the items, Macra board chairperson Aisha Makawa said they donated the items as part of their corporate social responsibility.

macra_donation“We want to hold hands with our relatives who have been hit by floods as most people are rushing to assist people in the Shire Valley,” she said.

Makawa urged companies and individuals to join hands with government to help victims of floods.

Mulanje district environmental officer for disaster management Suzgo Gondwe said the donation has come at a right time as most victims are in need of relief items.

“Some of those that have been affected have lost all of their belongings such as maize fields, houses and livestock. This donation will make an impact on their lives,” he said.

The items donated include 10 kilogrammes of maize flour, plastic paper for roofing, beans and blankets.
