Malawi opens business centre in India

Malawi’s High Commissioner to India Perks Ligoya on Wednesday, inaugurated the Malawi business centre in the city of Surat in Gujarat, India.

According to a press release made available to Malawi News Agency (Mana), the city of Surat is one of the most vibrant and fast growing city in India.

“This business centre will provide timely and relevant information to Indian business persons interested to do business with Malawi, on trade and investment prospects and opportunities available in Malawi,” states the release.

The release further states that in his remarks during the inauguration, president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), Kamlesh Yagnik, congratulated the Malawi High Commissioner for taking the initiative.

He said the business centre will help promote trade and investment between both countries.

Ligoya, while in Surat, held discussions with President of SGCCI and agreed that the two will facilitate the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) and SGCCI.

The high commissioner also visited Navsari Agricultural University and the dairy milk cooperative society, Surat Milk Union Limited (Sumul).

Surat is the second largest state in Gujarat and has a population of about five million people. It is also known as the diamond capital of the world and the textile capital of India.

  1. All I hear about the centre is for Indians who want to do busness/invest in Malawi, what about us Malawians do we have a chance to do busness/ invest in India? By looking at it the other way round it will be indians who’s goin to dominate and nothing for Malawians, back to asamunda days!
