Campaigning has started in the domestic pool circles ahead of this July 23’s Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) elections scheduled for Civo Stadium, Lilongwe.

Mapa general secretary Saulos Thindwa said the elections, to be held during an annual general meeting (AGM), would attract 13 delegates with two drawn from each regional committee.

The current Mapa executive commitee, which chairperson Chikondi Mbewe leads, will also be part of the AGM’s delegates eligible to vote.

“Candidates who wish to contest in various positions are allowed to express interest by collecting nomination papers and return them to the general secretary in person or through Mapa email address,” Thindwa said in a statement released on Tuesday.

“Nomination papers must reach the general secretary by Thursday, the 16th July, 2015. Nomination papers reaching the general secretary after the deadline will not be accepted, consequently rendering that individual ineligible to vote. Candidates shall be nominated by regional pool committees.”

Each term of office is four years and interested candidates from the regional committees must be nominated by not less than three affiliates from a particular region.

The positions up for grabs are for president, vice-president, general secretary, vice-general secretary, treasurer, tournament director and women representative.

A day after the AGM, Mapa will hold its first-ever national pool league finals with nine teams competing for honours.

Northern and Southern regions will send two teams to the finals while Eastern Region have one team and the Central Region four.
