Malawi President’s Hotel officially opens May 1

Peermont President’s Hotel is set to be officially opened on May 1 2015, the Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture has announced.

The hotel is located at Umodzi Park in Lilongwe which also includes the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC).

Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture Kondwani Nankhumwa described the opening of the hotel as a milestone in the country’s history in line with government’s vision of boosting the tourism sector and the economy.

He said: “The hotel will enhance Malawi’s appeal as a destination for international conferences and tourism, thereby bringing in much needed foreign exchange and job creation for the locals.”

Peermont President’s Hotel and BICC were constructed during the tenure of former president the late Bingu wa Mutharika who died in April 2012.

Peermont is a South Africa-based hospitality group running hotels, casinos and resorts in South Africa, Botswana and now Malawi.
