Malawi will this Friday host the inaugural 2015 brand South Africa exhibition in Lilongwe to provide a platform where trade, business and investment related matters are discussed, the South African High Commission has said.

In a statement, the commission said the SA High Commissioner Cassandra Mbuyane-Mokone, will launch the inaugural 2015 brand South Africa Exhibition at which participating South African companies will exhibit their goods and services to a cross- section of Malawi Government and business representatives.

This will also be an opportunity for the companies to communicate their corporate social responsibility initiatives that support and contribute to the socio-economic development of the people of Malawi.

“The South African Government is committed to supporting and taking the necessary steps that strengthen the bilateral trade relationship between South Africa and Malawi by actively engaging the South African and Malawi business community,” said the statement.

Participating South African companies include South African Airways (SAA), Nedbank, Standard Bank, Intercape, DStv, Engen, Get Bucks, General Precision Engineering and Tracker, according to the statement.

It said the SA government believes that it is critical to sustain engagements that deal with the removal of impediments to mutually beneficial trade and is of the view that this can be achieved by providing a platform where trade, business and investment-related matters are discussed by relevant stakeholders.

Malawi and South Africa have a bilateral trade agreement that is non-reciprocal whereby SA allows duty-free imports of all goods grown, produced or manufactured in Malawi, subject to minimum value added content of 25 percent.
