Three teams that employ Malawians in the South Africa Absa Premiership are in danger of relegation with the Kinnah Phiri-led Free State Stars facing the most threat.

In the 16-member league, which Kaizer Chiefs lead on 54 points from 24 games, Free State are third from the bottom on 22 points from 23 matches.

However, Kinnah believes his charges will beat the drop.

“The fight against relegation is still there, but I have the hope that we will survive. There are seven games remaining and the good thing is that four of the games are at home,” he said.

Kinnah took over from former Flames coach Tom Saintfiet in December and the team has hardly won with their efforts undermined by too many draws. Kinnah wants to take advantage of the international break to strengthen his squad.

A step above Free State Stars is Robert Ng’ambi’s Platinum Stars, who are also in danger of getting the chop. They are placed 13th, with 24 points from 22 games.

Last week, Platinum Stars placed on suspension their cup winning coach Alan Freese amid reports that the club is hunting for a new mentor.

Moroka Swallows, who have since hired Craig Roslee as head coach taking over from interim Patrick Mabedi are 15th also on 22 points from 24 games. n
