Man defiles step-daughter, infects her with HIV

Police in Mulanje have arrested a 29-year-old man has been arrested in Mulanje for allegedly defiling his 10-year- old stepdaughter and in the process infecting her with HIV.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, spokesperson for Mulanje Police station Gresham Ngwira said police arrested the man, Charles Magalasi after relatives reported the matter to police.

“The victim’s grandmother told us that they have been suspecting the man’s behaviour towards the girl and when they interrogated the victim she revealed that the step father has been defiling her since July,” said Ngwira.

Ngwira said the girl was taken to Muloza Health Centre and results indicated that he had been infected with HIV.

The suspect has since been charged with the offence of defilement contrary to section 138 of the penal code.

Both the suspect and victim come from Malunda Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Njema in the district.
