Mandala, Kamphulusa conquer NBS Bank Monthly Golf

Donbell Mandala and Bose Kamphulusa on Saturday won the NBS Bank Monthly Mug Championship at Country Club Limbe (CCL) in Blantyre  in the respective men’s and ladies’ categories.

Handicap-14 Mandala amassed a total of 44 stableford points to successfully fluff off pressure from a 60-strongfield, including his runner-up handicap-17 John Chikapa, who counted out handicap-13 Furkan Gani to third place with 42 points.

A birdie on the 16th hole and a total of nine pars were enough to grant him his third trophy this year and put him on the list of qualified golfers for the annual NBS Bank Winner-of-Winners Championship this December.

“I did not play under stress today; the struggles of my playing partners Harold Lungu and Andrew Ngomwa made me better as I tried my best to lead almost on every hole,” said Mandala, who accumulated 20 points on the front nine and 24 on the back.

Chikapa and Gani were also on the list of two-club winners alongside Nyakhoko Nsona, Willet Karonga, Gabriel Kambale, John-Gift Mwakhwawa, Charles Merrick and Kingsley Chimdima Mhango.

Handicap-30 Kamphulusa emerged victorious among eight ladies after collecting 30 points. This was her first glory this year.

NBS Bank head of personal and business banking Mercus Chigoga expressed satisfaction with the good turn-up of golfers and he promised more exciting events.

“As sponsors, we are happy with the turn up of 60 golfers. We promise more spectacular events, especially towards the end of the year when we will unwrap the Winner-of-Winners Championship. This is one way of thanking our customers, including golfers, for giving us business,” Chigoga said. n
