The Malawi Network of People Living with HIV (Manet+) has begun preparations for a national conference on August 28 to 29.

In a statement, Manet+ says the conference will be held in Lilongwe under the theme ‘Quality Treatment Now: Time for Action.’

“Under the said theme, the meeting is to highlight successes, achievements, gaps and challenges to do with treatment of HIV in Malawi,” reads part of the statement.

During the event a platform will be offered to institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government bodies, community based organisations (CBOs) and voices of communities.

The statement adds that people living with HIV will showcase some of their experiences and promising practices related to the implementation of HIV programmes.

The conference will also examine HIV national and local responses and reflect on future contributions towards the national responses by PLHIV and key stakeholders.

According to Manet+ executive director Safari Mbewe, this would be the third conference to be held in the country.

“We have been holding similar conferences for the past two years,” said Mbewe in an interview with Malawi News Agency, adding, “The conference will allow people living with the virus and other experts to share experiences.”

He said the conference would also give such people chance to give feedback on health services and how best to improve them.
